General gFEX Board Diagrams

This shows a basic overview of the upgrade history of the gFEX board from v2 through v4b (the current version); note the red overlaid text indicates the current board uses FPGA VU9P, and no longer VU160, as some older schematics may show. Click on the image to see a larger version.

This is the current production version 4b of the gFEX board. Note some of the major parts: 3 Virtex Ultrascale+ pFPGAs for data processing; 1 Zynq Ultrascale+ hybrid FPGA (Kintex-7 FPGA and ARM -9 dual-core processor CPU) for control and monitoring; and 34 (plus an additional spare) miniPODS. Check out the Components & Connections tab for more details. Click on the image to access a brief (public) overview of the development of the gFEX from a 2016 conference.

These two diagrams illustrate the upgrade history specifically for the connections on the gFEX board. The first schematic is from the pre-production version, while the second schematic is for the 3rd and 4th board versions. Please note this specific diagram has the incorrect model number of the FPGA as VU160; the correct/most recent is FPGA VU9P as the diagrams at the top of the page show (the most up-to-date version of this block diagram can be found in the Components & Connections tab). More info can be found on the gFEX Technical Document at EDMS.
